Let me open this by saying, I'm new... like a few months old new. Also, I really just got into exploration about 3 weeks ago. So again, very inexperienced... but I've done a good amount of research. But I'll offer my advice and you can do with it as you please. Now that my disclaimer is done, I'll get to my post:
1) Get those scanning skills up. Scanning skills include: Astrometric Acquisition, Astrometric Pinpointing, Astrometric Rangefinding. Due to the fact that I've been skilling up other skills because exploration is a time killer for me and not my 'primary' goal in Eve, most of mine are at 2s and 3s. I get by. If you want to do the exploration thing, get them to 4s. Most of the time, I don't consider it worth going to 5 unless you need a 5 for a specific module or skill.
2) Get the skills mentioned by Calairis up. Those will be your money makers. I'll be honest, I have those skills at 1s and it makes the process take so much longer and sometimes I just can't get the job done. But again, exploration is a secondary thing for me; but, if I was going to be an explorer I'd be leveling them to 4s very quickly.
3) Suggestion for ships: I use a Vexor. Its a great ship for exploration due to it being a drone boat and a variety of module slots. Only bad thing is that you'll need to train drone skills up... which sucks; but, drones are nice in they can do a lot of different things for you. I can't take credit for this fit as I found it somewhere online; but, here's what I put in the slots (sorry, still not good with the whole fitting exporter thing)
High slots Salvager Tractor Beam (nice to just pull stuff to you while you are doing other things... makes faster clean up) Small Remote Armor Repair System (used to repair your drones armor when they are fighting) Probe Launcher Improved Cloaking Device II (if you only explore high sec, you don't need this, unless your corp is war decced or a suicide ganker decides to take you out)
Mid slots Analyzer Codebreaker 10 MN Afterburner (helps you move around in sites faster)
Low slots Medium Armor Repair Unit (this is to keep your own ship alive) Damage Control (this should be on unless you are cloaked) Energized Adaptive Nano Membrane (improves your tank) Armor Explosive Hardener I (improves your tank against explosive damage. I set up for omni tank just in case a War Target finds me. This is a slot you can adjust as needed in my opinion)
Rigging 2 Medium Gravity Capacitor Upgrades (Vexor doesn't get bonuses to probing, this helps with that issue)
And then load up with drones... if you can get the t2s, you'll want them as they are your only source of damage. I keep a few mining drones on in case I run into a decent rock to mine. I hate going home with an empty hull. I also should point out that for a lot of thee modules you'll want the best you can afford and/or fit. I'm trying to get mine up to t2s. |
